Breakthrough Job Trends '08: Get Ahead of the Curve

Pam Strayer, AllHealthcare

How can you get tomorrow’s jobs today? Figure out which new employers are positioned to take off in the newest wave of healthcare trends.

AllHealthcare’s put together a guide on the top 6 trends that can help you find the right companies to work for and get ready for the coming boom in healthcare jobs. If you find the right companies or area, you can ride the wave – and hopefully land a job at the top of your profession.

Trend 1: Care Goes to Extremes: From Hyperlocal and Global

Where care is delivered is turning out to be more elastic and dynamic than we ever imagined. At the hyperlocal level, patients can find a clinic at work, in the mall or around the corner. Target and Walmart now offer convenience clinics, Walgreens bought a chain of on-site work clinics, And a new startup, ZocDoc, lets you find a doctor online in Manhattan who can see you right away, letting physicians quickly fill same-day cancellation spots.

Let's See...

Are these trends affecting your work life? Let's talk about what you and others have to say about this here.

At the global level, you can search for the best dentist in Mexico using RevaHealth’s new global dental tourism search engine. Or check into a five-star Thai hospital, happily paid for by your American health insurer, which saves tens of thousands of dollars on outsourced patients’ care. The next question will soon be if they’ll also cover your Thai island beach trip to convalesce. (We’ll get back to you on that in the Q2 update).

Former Google Health exec Adam Bosworth’s forecast: create global medicine businesses. Speaking at an MIT Alumni Health 2.0 event at a prestigious Silicon Valley law firm, the computer pro told health entrepreneurs in Jan. to consider new business ventures in this sector.

Career Advice: Consider Collaborating
Think broadly about where you or your employer wants to offer care, or if you want to partner with others – either near and far – to offer better or less expensive services.

I would love to have healthcare on the internet. Being a slight hypochondriac I am on WebMD all the time and since I am so busy at work - Id live to have drs. available on the internet to answer my questions.
