Why Induction?

Starting a new job is a demanding and stressful experience. Induction is an essential part of the employer’s obligations to ensure a safe, healthy and enjoyable work place. It is also an opportunity for both partners in the selection process to confirm or review their decision to work together.

Induction has benefits for all involved in the process:

· Ensure new employees are welcomed into the Company in a consistent and professional manner

Provide an overview of the organization and enable the new employee to see where they fit in to the big picture
Create a sense of belongingness and pride in the new employee
Furnish new employees with an understanding of the Company’s expectations in respect of their performance and conduct at work
Enable new employees to settle into their new position quickly and become productive and efficient members of staff within a short period of time
Support the probation and appraisal policies
Furnish new employees with an understanding of the benefits and rewards of working for the Company and give them the opportunity to make choices.
Ensure that new entrants are highly motivated and that this motivation is reinforced
Reduce costs associated with repeated recruitment, training and staff turnover

Why Induction Manual?

In the absence of an induction manual, managers may or may not impart a structured induction to their new team members. Again the approach will vary from manager to manager.

Induction manual will lead to a standardized and structured approach towards Induction by all managers in the company. It sets out the procedures, guidelines and the specific actions with the timelines for managers and employees to follow during the induction process.
