What is the worst patient you have ever dealt with?

I haven't had very many horrific patients...but I've had patients with TERRIBLE families!!!!! These families think they know everything - they try to boss me around and tell me I don't know what I'm doing. Sorry, but I've been a nurse for 29 years - I'm pretty sure I can give an injection without messing up.

As a pharmacist, I have plenty of patients who misuse their prescriptions and then demand more.

I had a patient with respiratory MRSA who insisted on repeatedly taking her mask off to talk to passers by in the hospital.  When I insructed her that she needed to keep the mask on for safety reasons, she once again took it off in order to snap at me.  Let me just say that when your face less than a foot away from someone spraying MRSA everywhere you just want to sit there and give them a proper lecture on the many reasons why they are putting the rest of their family friends, all the strangers in the hospital and you at unnecessary risk and then let them take care of their own damn procedure.  But you just have to grit your teeth, thank your immune system for being better than theirs, and cross your fingers.

That last post is just terrible! I don't know how I would have handled that....So many patients don't understand either how sick they really are or how sick they could get someone else. Sometimes, even an adult patient can be like dealing with a 3 year old. So frustrating. Those are the worst kind because you think you can speak to them like adults, but in reality, you can't.
