Is Climate Change a Threat to Public Health?

Posted 3 months ago A majority of US health department directors have come out to say that climate change will seriously (and negatively) affect public health over the next 20 years. Do you agree with them? If so, what elements of public health do you think will be adversely affected? If not, why not? Georgia Price

| Posted 3 months ago This is a great question and frankly I had not thought of climate change in such a way. Public health is all about prevention and understanding the factors that affect individuals' health and access to healthy resources. Now, I would want to think that climate change (global warming, etc.) would actually prompt governmental actions to reverse the effects and thereby result in healthier ways and standards of living such as incentives to using public transportation more often, purchasing food produced locally and also incentives on manufacturing companies to reduce their gas emission and pollution levels. Maybe I am too optimistic, but I like to be and think so. The people who think it cannot be done should not interrupt those who are doing it. --Chinese proverb |
