| Posted 6 months ago After graduating from a Medical Asst. School, I had decided I wanted to work with cancer patients, after having taken care of my mother for two years. I went to a local cancer treatment center and was told they did not hire Med. Assts. I was persistent, and offered to work for 30 days for free, to prove myself. At the end of thirty days, they could give me a grade (for my externship) and tell me "bye", or offer me a position. I was trained to build the lead shielding blocks for Radiation Therapy, and was hired at the end of my thirty days. This was a great opportunity for me and opened the door for many more Med. Assts. I stayed there for ten years, and would not trade my experiences there for the world! They sent me to school and to seminars. My last position there was Hyperbaric Oxygen Chamber treatment operator, that I went to school for in USC-Columbia. I hopes this helps someone challenge the system. |

| Posted 4 months ago I first got hired as a MA through the placement service in the school I attended. I was hired a week before graduation to operate a Physician's office lab for a doctor just taking over an established practice. I never went through any certification. After building my skills (and confidence), I went to the Red Cross blood services doing bloodmobiles. That would be a great place to apply as they always need MAs, and have a high turn-over rate. If you have training in the medical field at all, they may hire you. They actually train you in their way of operating anyway, so new graduates are perfect for them. it also looks good on your resume to work for " The Red Cross", since they are such a big name. Just don't stay too long, or you'll forget a lot of your clinical knowledge! They have good pay and great benefits, too, but they have high turnover for a reason. It's a good start, though. |

I actually got hired as a Medical Assistant (2 1/2 yrs ago) without formally training. I was at the time a certified phlebotomist and a certified nurses assistant. I applied to an ad in the newspaper and relayed to my potential employers that I was not certified. I did have alot of the qualities and talents they were looking for, was given a chance and the rest is history. My advice would be... try to apply. Another added benefit to my job was that my doctors (employers) were very pro-active with education.
. ?? NEED HELP WHERE DO I GO FROM HERE NOW??? STUCK IN CALI.
