We want to do a feature here on AllHealthcare on the 10 Coolest Jobs. We got the idea from an article from Monster here. What do you think the coolest job in healthcare that you ever heard about is?

Extra points, too, if we can actually write a profile of a real person in the job!

Call me crazy, but I think being a dental assistant seems really cool! You don't have to deal with a bunch of blood, you get to make people's smiles prettier, and you have to work four days a week. Plus, scrubs are sooooo comfortable.

Any other great jobs out there? What's a real dream job?

I think Paul Farmer comes close...or people who work at the Gates Foundation...or maybe Google Health...?

Physical therapist for a college sports team - you get to travel with the team on roadtrips, and you play a major role in helping team members get over their injuries as quickly as possible so they can be back out on the field.

Ooo, i like that. I once interviewed two famous sports medicine docs - one worked for the Olympic team - that WAS cool...

I like the idea of traveling for work sometimes. What health jobs let you do that?

I like the Idea of School Nurse...or Physical Therapist.  I don't think I would enjoy a hospital setting.  A small town clinic or a school sounds ideal.

I think working as a medical biller and coder, you have a peace of mind and it is relaxing.

I think working as a emergency medical technician and a paramedic or a flight nurse, you just never know what to expect when you get there. I find these profession exciting.

Well, I've been there and done that.  You don't want to be a medical biller.  Especially if the company is not up to date with software, which means you end up printing claims to insurance companies that love to deny claims or just send the claim form back because the code is in the wrong spot.  Then you have to appeal the claim and you have a short window.

School nursing is not bad, but the parents are not as involved as they should be with caring for their children. The systems need to be suportive for us to help communicate with the parents to teach them good health skills in the home.

I think that being a COTA is the best job ever! We get to teach, play, and be serious all at the same time! We help those whom need it become functional again. I have had many clients whom have had a CVA come in unable to do much for themselves and leave from therapy 8 weeks later being able to do all the major daily activies (dressing self, feeding self, standing up by himself, etc). I currently have a client whom 2 weeks ago could not move her left arm because of a CVA and now she is able to move it....my favorite saying will always be this: Walking 50 feet is great but being able to wipe your own butt is even better...OT just do it!

Yeah, I agree with Crystal and Miss Kitty about being a school nurse.  My daughter is only 3mths old but when she enters school I would love to be able to peak in on her if I wanted.  I actually inquired about a school nurse position a few years ago when I first started nursing but the pay was very poor.  THE HOURS WOULD BE IDEAL!

Hi! I think being a Medical Assisstant is the coolest. We get to do many duties, draw blood, collect specimen, assist with minor surgery and meet different culture of people. Wearing different types of scrub is nice ,pay is great too. Hours can be flexible.
